]]>Netflix gave us one of its best original movies with The Old Guard, and it was just a matter of time before they announced its follow-up. The critically acclaimed superhero film is officially getting a sequel, and here’s everything we know about it so far.
Gina Prince-Bythewood was in charge of directing The Old Guard, but she won’t be back for the sequel. Victoria Mahoney will sit in the director’s chair the second time around, and she said she was “blown backward by the collective levels of talent, skill, and savvy” that went into the making of the first movie.
The Old Guard wouldn’t work if it wasn’t for its amazing cast, and it seems they’ll all be back for the sequel. According to Deadline, Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo, and Chiwetel Ejiofor are all set to reprise their roles.
Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but there’s a lot of room left for exploration. The Old Guard centers on a team of immortal mercenaries who have been around for centuries, so possibilities are pretty much endless—especially after the last scene revealed that Quynh is still alive.

]]>Direct-to-VOD releases became a new normal this year, but some of the best movies of the summer really deserved to be seen in the theaters with a big crowd, including these three.
Netflix poured $70 million into The Old Guard so we’d like to believe it would’ve gotten a limited theatrical release. This action flick about a group of immortal mercenaries is the unofficial film of the summer, and it would be even more epic on the big screen.
In addition to being one of the most delightful films of the year, this time loop comedy broke the record for the biggest sale in the Sundance history. After dropping on Hulu, it was also released in select drive-in theaters, but it would be so much more fun if we all got to see it and laugh at it together.
Even if it was released in the theaters, Judd Apatow’s latest comedy probably wouldn’t replicate the box office success of his earlier films. Seeing it this way would still be quite spectacular since it was shot by the Oscar-winning cinematographer Robert Elswit.
