This may seem like an odd choice at first glance, but Bloomberg Intelligence’s media analyst Geetha Ranganathan described it as “a natural extension” of Netflix’s content strategy because it will make it possible to mine intellectual property from popular shows and deepen engagement.

Another reason why we’re not surprised by the news is Netflix’s previous efforts to find a link to the multibillion-dollar video game industry. This streaming service already has several video game-themed TV shows in development, including Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed, and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.
