Elaborate cookie decorating videos have been around for years, and their moment to go viral is finally here. Passionate cookie bakers on Instagram are experiencing a huge rise in popularity thanks to their adorable—and strangely comforting—time-lapse videos that show them decorating cookies.
These widely popular videos usually follow the same formula. Food artists start the video with a blank cookie, before proceeding to decorate it with a piping bag, usually using cookie glaze in soothing pastel colors.
Unlike many viral TikTok recipes that had us cooking up simple dishes all summer long, cookie decorating clips aren’t here to start the same craze. Decorating cookies requires much more skill, and most people aren’t watching these videos in the hope they’ll do the same, but simply because it’s incredibly satisfying to see the final result.
