Dating is difficult and during the pandemic, it’s almost impossible. While some dates are great, others end terribly. What’s worse is finding out your new beau is sleeping around with other people behind your back. Trust us—it happens. In fact, it’s so common that it’s gotten a name—roaching. So, what’s roaching?

The term comes from how cockroaches hide in shelves and multiply. The same applies to a partner who has many hidden partners and is sleeping around. Just like it’s gross to find one of those bugs in your home and then seeing tons of them, the same applies to finding out your partner has many partners.

So, how do you know when you’re being roached? Signs include they don’t make or keep plans, they aren’t trying to be serious, they keep you at a distance, or they tell you they want it to be casual. While all of these things stink, they’re tell-tale signs you’re being roached.

If you find out you’re being roached, it’s not a be-all-end-all. Maybe you didn’t talk about being exclusive, which means they aren’t actually breaking rules. The issue arises when they’re being dishonest or trying to hide things. We can’t stress enough how important it is to discuss your sexual history and your partner’s sexual history together. It’s vital to your safety and health, especially during COVID.
