Artificial intelligence seems to be taking over pretty much every aspect of our daily lives, including the way we plan our travels. AI-powered travel planning experienced a huge rise in popularity this year, and it will be going stronger than ever in 2024.

Throughout 2023, we’ve seen several TikTok users go viral after sharing their AI-curated travel itineraries with the world. They turned to ChatGPT and Notion AI when planning their next adventure, and their AI-generated travel itineraries attracted millions of views.

As artificial intelligence experiences an even bigger surge in popularity, AI-powered planning is shaping up to be one of the biggest travel trends of 2024.

According to Euronews’ recent reports, 62% of millennials would appreciate insights, tips, or hints from an AI companion while planning their travels. Baby Boomers aren’t as open to trusting AI tech to plan their travels, and only 39% said they would use AI in travel planning.

Several travel-related platforms already embraced this craze and integrated AI tools into their websites. Booking.com introduced an AI Trip Planner earlier this year, powered by ChatGPT, Expedia launched its own AI chatbot, while Tripadvisor introduced an AI-powered itinerary generator, helping you plan your next adventure based on your destination, dates, and interests.

The use of artificial intelligence in the music industry raised some eyebrows in recent months, but it seems YouTube is getting ready to hop on the AI train. They’re working with major studios to develop an AI tool that can mimic the voices of our favorite musicians.

According to Billboard’s new report, YouTube wants to launch a new artificial intelligence tool that will allow creators to make videos using the voices of popular recording artists. They were planning to debut it during the Made on YouTube event in September, but the plan never came to fruition because they’re still to ink deals with record labels.

Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group are negotiating licensing deals with YouTube, but nothing has been decided just yet. They’d have to sign legal agreements with YouTube which would cover voice rights for the beta version of this AI tool, while a separate agreement would be required for its wide launch.

None of this would be possible without the artists giving permission for their voices to be used, and some of them are pretty resistant to the idea. Several high-profile artists openly spoke against AI in recent months, including Drake, Sting, and Ice Cube.

AI-generated music is experiencing a huge boom these days, but not everyone seems to be a fan. From Drake to John Legend, several acclaimed artists spoke against the use of artificial intelligence in the music industry.

Drake

Several AI-generated Drake collaborations went viral in recent months, including a fake duet with The Weeknd “Heart On My Sleeve”. The Canadian rapper openly spoke against this trend, describing his fake collaboration with Ice Space as “the last straw”.

Ice Cube

Ice Cube isn’t a huge fan of AI-generated songs, and he even went so far as to say it’s “demonic” to have someone take your original voice and manipulate it without having to pay.

John Legend

John Legend didn’t criticize AI-generated music as harshly as some other artists, but he believes it should be regulated because artists should have control over how their voices are used in the world.

Sting

Sting recently told BBC that “the building blocks of music belong to us, to human beings”, adding that he anticipates musicians will face a battle against AI in upcoming years.

The Recording Academy

The Recording Academy is also taking a firm stance against AI, introducing the rule that says that “only human creators are eligible to be submitted for consideration for, nominated for, or win a Grammy Award” at the upcoming ceremony.

The perfume industry may be on the verge of a big shift. Incorporating artificial intelligence into the process of making fragrance may transform the whole industry, but what can we realistically expect to happen?

While perfumes often smell like the most beautiful flowers or ripe fruits, the ingredients used for them are almost always synthetical. The smell of lavender, jasmine, or raspberries in your favorite perfume may have been perfected, but it wasn’t made using the real stuff. The lab-made replicas are doing a much better job, and now they may get help from AI.

But customers increasingly want natural ingredients, and there’s a way to give them that. As Aerin Lauder, founder of Aerin, told Allure, “It’s tricky to formulate perfumes with natural ingredients. They don’t last as long on the skin, and if you’re paying for a fragrance you want it to last.” Thanks to artificial intelligence, perfumers can measure how intensely your scent will smell over time, which helps them determine the concentration of individual ingredients. This allows for the creation of new, interesting combinations that weren’t possible before.

“Each time you refresh the site, the network will generate a new facial image from scratch,” writes Philip Wang, a software engineer at Uber, in a Facebook post. “Most people do not understand how good AIs will be at synthesizing images in the future.”

The algorithm behind the website uses a huge dataset of real images to generate faces that don’t actually exist. Awesome or terrifying? You decide.
