]]>The Billboard Hot 100 tends to experience a major overhaul every holiday season, and things have gotten a little bit spooky this week. From Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” to Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters”, several songs with a spooky vibe returned to the chart after Halloween.
Michael Jackson’s smash hit “Thriller” experienced the biggest gain on the Hot 100 chart this week, jumping to no. 21 with 14.5 million streams, 10.9 million radio airplay audience impressions, and 5,000 downloads during the week leading up to Halloween.
Bobby “Boris” Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers’ zombie-themed bop “Monster Mash” jumped to No. 38, after spending two weeks at No. 1 following its release in 1962. Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters” also re-entered the Hot 100 at No. 45, returning to the chart for the third consecutive year just in time for Halloween.
It was also a huge week for the soundtrack of Tim Burton’s animated classic The Nightmare Before Christmas, which jumped to No. 25 on the Billboard 200 with 25,000 equivalent album units earned during its latest week on the chart. Its biggest hit “This Is Halloween” made its debut at No. 41, marking the first time any song from this beloved movie entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Nostalgic pop culture references were the biggest Halloween trend of 2021. Hailey Bieber gave us some of the best costumes of the year by recreating some of Britney Spears’ most iconic outfits, while Ciara did her best impression of Selena Quintanilla.
Celebs also used their costumes to pay homage to many classic movies, ranging from horror classics (Reese Witherspoon) and Disney movies (Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion) to beloved cult classics (Kendall Jenner).
