]]>Making gingerbread houses is a holiday tradition and this year you can take your gingerbread houses to the next level by decking them out with Ikea furniture. But like putting together most furniture, assembling gingerbread houses takes skills and patience. It’s so much more than just icing a cookie as the cookies crumble, the icing hardens, and the structure falls down. And Ikea furniture can be equally as frustrating to put together. So naturally, the two are being combined with gingerbread houses made out of Ikea furniture.
The official description on Ikea’s website reads, “At IKEA, we believe every house deserves to feel like a home – even if it’s made of deliciously sweet gingerbread,” which couldn’t be cuter.
You can download six free “cookie cutters” on Ikea’s website to make your own gingerbread home. The cookie cutters include the BILLY bookcase, STRANDMON armchair, MALM bed frame, LACK table, JOKKMOKK table and chair set, and RENS rug. You can even purchase dough from Ikea. To make the furniture, prep the dough and roll it out. Then, cut out the paper templates and use them to trace the shapes on the dough. Bake the cut pieces and then assemble them into furniture using icing. Like Ikea furniture, it’s designed to be easy to assemble, so the whole family can get in on the festivity.

]]>IKEA will build a new store in Vienna, and it’s going to be unlike any of their stores around the world.
The building will be located in one of the biggest subway stations in the city (Westbahnhof), it’s going to be seven stories tall, and built in an eco-friendly manner.
What does that mean? By placing the store in the city, on the location that’s easily accessible by public transport or bike, IKEA is encouraging everyone to reduce the use of cars. The new store won’t even have a parking area!
How would you carry the things you purchase home then, you may ask? You don’t – they get them delivered to you. The store is actually visioned as a meeting place, where you go to browse and to have a good time. Some of the features include a rooftop open for the public, a cafe, and green facades decorated with plants.
