The best-supporting actor category brought several surprises our way, and seeing Brian Tyree Henry sneak into this field with his role in Causeway was one of the biggest shockers.
Snub: Tom Cruise – “Top Gun: Maverick”
Top Gun: Maverick received an impressive number of nominations at this year’s Oscars, but Tom Cruise failed to get an acting nod despite carrying the film on his shoulders.
Surprise: Andrea Riseborough, “To Leslie”
You probably haven’t even heard of Andrea Riseborough’s film To Leslie before A-list stars started showering it with praise on social media. This unusual campaign apparently worked, and Riseborough went from being an Oscar underdog to the first-time nominee.
Snub: “Babylon”
Despite being considered one of the main contenders at this year’s Oscars, Damien Chazelle’s star-studded epic Babylon only scored three nods in technical categories.
Surprise: Paul Mescal, “Aftersun”
