Hollywood’s biggest stars saved their best red carpet looks for the Academy Awards on Sunday night, and impressed us with some epic fashion choices. From mermaid glamour to head-to-toe metallics, here are five red carpet trends that stole the show at this year’s Oscars.

Back to Black

Black was one of the most popular colors at this year’s Oscars, and many stars found a way to put a fun twist on this timeless trend, including Margot Robbie, Carey Mulligan, Sandra Hüller, Eva Longoria, and Camila Alves.

Glittering Metallics

Metallic dresses were shining brighter than ever at this year’s Oscars. America Ferrera, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zendaya, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Lupita Nyong’o were only some of the stars bringing shimmering vibes to the red carpet.

Mermaid Glamour

Mermaid-like gowns in gentle shades of seafoam greens and baby blues were having a moment at the Oscars. We can thank Lupita Nyong’o, Emma Stone, Hailee Steinfeld, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Florence Pugh for putting this trend on the map.

Structured Designs

Many dresses at this year’s Oscars featured peplums, shoulder pads, and other structured details, including the ones worn by Emma Stone, Ariana Grande, Sandra Hüller, Florence Pugh, and Eva Longoria.

Gloves Return

Gloves added a touch of sophistication to many of our favorite looks at the Oscars. Carey Mulligan, Michelle Yeoh, and Camila Alves used them to make a glamorous fashion statement.
