Hollywood spent New Year’s Eve mourning the passing of the iconic actress Betty White, who died at the age of 99. The “first lady of television” gave us countless amazing roles to remember her by, and here are five defining moments of her career.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show

After hosting countless game shows, White got her big break with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and gave us many laugh-out-loud moments while playing Sue Ann Nivens.

The Golden Girls

If we had to pick a single project that White will be remembered by, The Golden Girls would take the cake. She was a true delight as the naïve and sweet Rose Nylund and this role truly fit her like a glove.

The Proposal

If we had to pick a project that brought White back in the spotlight during the 2010s, it would be this rom-com starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock. She gave us some of the film’s most hilarious scenes in the role of Reynolds’s grandma.

Hot in Cleveland

Another project responsible for the “Betty White Renaissance” during the 2000s was this hilarious sitcom, where she played a sassy caretaker Elka Ostrovsky.

Saturday Night Live

Following the success of The Proposal and the iconic Snickers ad she appeared in, people couldn’t get enough of White. Over 500,000 people joined a Facebook group called “Betty White to Host SNL (Please)”, and she eventually did, winning an Emmy in the process.
