Celebrate the ’90s With Lava Streaks

During the pandemic, many influencers, celebrities, and us common people have taken the opportunity to get bold with our hair color. One of the biggest hair trends to emerge from the quarantine is ’90s-inspired, chunky lava streaks.

Devon Carlson and Bella Hadid have stepped out in the fiery-red two-toned hair look. Carlson cited her inspiration as Christina Aguilera, sharing a photo of the singer in her “Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)” music video. Hadid’s take on the look was with clip-in red extensions, which looked just like the ones she wore for Versace’s Fall 2017 show.

London salon Bleach London, reports seeing a major increase in demand for the color since lockdown began. “[Streaks] are one of my favorite looks to create, and they’re so simple,” Alex Brownsell, Bleach London’s cofounder and creative director told Vogue. “The application process is obviously very quick and the maintenance is even speedier as there isn’t much root to touch up.”

Red hair color is one of the hardest to achieve and to maintain high saturation, so taking a striped approach is easier to pill off and better for your hair’s health.

If you’re wanting to switch things up for fall and want to try something bold, consider some thick red streaks.
