Have you scrolled through Instagram over the past few days and noticed that celebrity women have been posting black and white photos captioned #challengeaccepted? So, what’s this latest Instagram trend?

The challenge is about women supporting each other and to spread positivity online. It’s not a new challenge as it began in 2016 and was called the Black and White Challenge. Originally, the idea was to raise cancer awareness, but now it’s being used to advocate for female empowerment. In addition to #challengeaccepted, women are also using the hashtags #womenlifteachother, #empoweringwomen, and #womensupportingwomen. After posting a black and white photo, the idea is to tag your friends to take part in the challenge.

One reason that female empowerment may be trending on social media is due to the recent altercation between New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and Florida Republican Rep. Ted Yoho that occurred a few weeks ago on the steps of the Capitol. According to USA Today, Yoho called AOC a “f–king b—h.” Yoho apologized, but AOC took to the House and gave a powerful speech in which she stood up for herself and women.

So, who has participated in the challenge so far? Vanessa Bryant, Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria, Kristen Bell, Hilary Duff, Eniko Hart, and Zoe Saldana are just some of the many celebrities who have posted black and white photos on Instagram. We expect more stars to follow suit over the next couple of days.
