The social media platform’s annual “Year on TikTok 2023” offered an overview of the biggest trends to emerge in the past 12 months. TikTok’s head of operations Adam Presser described it as “a window into stories that have inspired, entertained, and educated over 1 billion people around the world.”
In terms of music, 2023 has been a great year for Selena Gomez, who took the No. 1 spot on TikTok’s list of the top artists in the United States. This is most likely due to the fact that Gomez is one of the most-followed celebrities on TikTok, but the success of her hit collaboration “Calm Down” with Rema certainly helped.
Gomez is followed by the rising star Natalie Jane, while the rapper Ice Spice and pop stars Meghan Trainor and Ariana Grande rounded out the top five.
As for top songs of 2023, the sped-up version of Justine Skye’s “Collide” dominated the list, ahead of FIFTY FIFTY’s “Cupid – Twin Ver – Sped Up Version”, PARTYNEXTDOOR’s “Her Way (Sped Up)”, Toosii’s “Favorite Song – Sped Up”, and “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” by PinkPantheress and Ice Spice.
