Chicken and Bread Were the Most Tweeted-About Quarantine Foods

Twitter is a great indicator of rising trends in all spheres of life, including the culinary world. The social network recently composed the “Twitter from Home” report based on the data collected over the course of the past six months, and chicken and bread were the most-tweeted-about foods during this period.

Twitter’s new report sheds light on “what people in the U.S. have been listening to, watching, eating, and doing to stay connected and entertained” in quarantine. The list of trending foods was topped by chicken, with bread and cake right behind.

Chicken emerged as the no. 1 food trend of the year thanks to the beloved Popeye’s chicken sandwiches, but it was also trending on Twitter after McDonald’s announced it would debut its spicy chicken nuggets. The popularity of bread is a no-brainer since everyone tried to bake their own sourdough and banana bread at home.

Cakes were also having a moment this year, especially thanks to the viral “everything is cake” meme that showcases food artists responsible for baking super-realistic cakes. The rest of Twitter’s list was filled by other beloved comfort foods, including cookies, cheese, and chocolate.
