The 2000s have given us many amazing “girl power” comedies that still resonate to this day, and many of them will soon return for another ride. Sequels and spin-offs themed around the classic Y2K movies are taking Hollywood by storm, and here are three worth waiting for.

The Princess Diaries

Two decades after we said goodbye to Mia Thermopolis, she’s ready to make her grand return. Anne Hathaway confirmed she’s going back to Genovia in The Princess Diaries 3, which hails from screenwriter Flora Greeson and director Adele Lim, whose credits include Crazy Rich Asians and Joy Ride.

The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada sequel is also on the way, with Anne Hathaway returning alongside Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt. The new film will reportedly see Miranda Priestly navigating her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and trying to secure advertising dollars from a luxury group where Blunt’s Emily Charlton now works as a high-powered executive.

Legally Blonde

After years of speculations about a potential third Legally Blonde movie, this sequel is yet to get a green light, but Elle Woods will return regardless. Amazon Prime Video ordered a prequel series Elle, which will see the titular heroine trying to navigate her teenage years, and they recently opened a casting call for the lead actress.
