Critics Choice Super Awards are Here to Celebrate Genre Movies and TV Shows

Fan-friendly genres, such as sci-fi and horror, rarely get a chance to shine at award shows, such as the Oscars and the Emmys. The newly-introduced Critics Choice Super Awards are here to change that, and they’re here to celebrate beloved, but overlooked genre movies and TV shows.

This fan-friendly award ceremony will air on the CW on January 10th, 2021. The list of nominees will be announced on November 19th and it will feature categories honoring best action, superhero, horror, sci-fi/fantasy, and animated movies and TV shows.

Critic’s Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin said they’re thrilled to be partnering with the CW in an attempt to bring these beloved genres to the forefront and give them the recognition they deserve.

“The time has come to recognize the brilliance, creativity, and artistic excellence showcased in genres that, for far too long, have been overlooked by other award shows,” said Berlin in a statement.

Critics Choice Super Awards seem pretty similar to the Saturn Awards presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films, but the idea behind this new award ceremony is pretty noble. Genre movies are constantly being overlooked by the Oscars, and projects such as Black Panther, Get Out, and Joker, which managed to earn some recognition by the Academy voters are few and far between.
