“Cruella” Marks Hollywood’s First Major Premiere Since the Pandemic

Hollywood premieres are finally coming back and Disney is leading the pack! Disney staged the world premiere of Cruella at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles. This premiere marks the company’s first major red carpet premiere since Mulan‘s in March 2020. Before the Emma Stone live-action film gets its Memorial Day weekend premiere on May 28, 2021, Disney+ and in theaters, the stars came to slay at the premiere.

The film is set in 1970s London and it’s the origin story of the Disney villain who was previously played by Glenn Close in the ’90s 101 Dalmatians films. Cruella follows the aspiring fashion designer who has a punk-rock vibe and her evil ways which seem to start with thieves Jasper and Horace (Joel Fry and Paul Walter Hauser) that she hires to help her face-off against Baroness von Hellman (Emma Thompson).

Premiers have always been a huge part of opening films and during the pandemic, companies had to find new ways to promote films. A Quiet Place Part II is premiering opposite Cruella and it will be the first time since the pandemic that two studio event pics graced the big screen.

Gracing the red carpet at the premiere were Stone, co-star Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and director Craig Gillespie. But all eyes were on the actress who wore a classy pants suits that honored Cruella’s signature red, black, and white wardrobe with a classy pants suit.
