Cute Dogs Have Become Hip-Hop Star’s Latest Sidekick

They say dogs are man’s best friend and when it comes to dogs, rappers and hip-hop stars can’t seem to get enough of them. In fact, these dogs can’t seem to leave their owner’s sides. Just as Chika who owns a Chihuahua-mix named Vision, Megan Thee Stallion who owns a French bulldog named 4oe, Killer Mike who owns a pooch named Gigi, or Freddie Gibbs who owns a Frenchie named Bingo.

Actually, dogs have been big in hip-hop for decades in everything from animated artwork on Too Short’s 1990 album Short Dog’s in the House to the mutts Snoop Dogg has on covers to DMX’s barking ad-libs. In the past, rappers used to use big, muscular dogs with sharp teeth to show their toughness, but now, they’re embracing cuter, more cuddly dogs.

“There’s a wider variety of rappers now, and with that comes a wider variety of dogs,” says Portland rapper Aminé, who has a labradoodle named Oliver. Rapper RxCKSTxR, who went viral with a song called  “Puppy Dog Bouncing In A Box,” and made a concept album named The Dog Album, believes that dogs have changed with the genre’s shift in style and fashion, “We’ve gone from oversized tees, jackets, and jeans to tank tops, blouses, loud colors, sandals, and skinny jeans with matching purses and belts,” he says. “The same apply to our dogs. Most rapper dogs are small and easy to carry and travel with sort of like an accessory.”

Whatever the reason for the change in pups, we’re just here for the adorable relationship between rappers and their dogs.
