Dating Around? Be Careful of “Wokefishing”

Dating is not easy, especially in today’s world. We’re currently unable to go out as much as we’d want and for those who want to meet new people, online dating is more important than ever. You already know about catfishing, an activity where someone lies about their appearance and identity in order to gain someone’s attention and trust. But there’s a new phenomenon you should look out for—wokefishing.

Wokefishing happens when someone pretends to be more progressive and open-minded than they really are. It can be done intentionally, in order to attract people with a certain way of thinking, or unintentionally, due to not understanding the real meaning of being woke. Not being honest about personal beliefs can be very misleading and potentially dangerous if the person who’s been lied to ends up falling for someone who does this.

It’s important to be aware of this so you can recognize it when the first signs appear. When you like someone, it’s easy to ignore the red flags until it gets too late. If you’re extra careful about not being “wokefished” you’ll be able to tell early on if someone’s trying to do that to you.
