Elon Musk has weighed in on The Odyssey after Christopher Nolan’s version of the story began racking up major box office numbers. Posting on X, Musk said his AI tool Grok Imagine will create a full-length adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic that he described as both “historically accurate” and faithful to the poem’s artistic spirit.
He said the project should be finished by the end of 2026 and shared the comment alongside an AI-generated three-minute short of The Odyssey that had been posted by another X user. The move appears to extend Musk’s long-running interest in the material, which he had previously criticized before Nolan’s film opened.
There is an obvious tension in Musk’s framing, since Homer’s poem includes cyclopes, a many-headed monster and a sorceress who turns men into pigs. The source notes that the work is nearly 2,800 years old and is generally regarded as fiction, making the idea of a “historically accurate” version a strange one on its face. The report suggests Musk may instead be referring to casting, after he previously objected to Lupita Nyong’o being linked to Helen of Troy and accused Nolan of bias in a post earlier this year.
Musk also amplified transphobic commentary related to Elliot Page, who was initially rumored to be playing Achilles before later being confirmed as Sinon. Meanwhile, Nolan’s The Odyssey has been a major success for Universal, with a $264 million worldwide opening weekend and signs that it could become the filmmaker’s highest-grossing movie yet.
