Everyone on TikTok is Buying Fake Designer Handbags

Who hasn’t dreamed of owning a designer handbag? While many of us hope to one day own one, that day probably won’t be happening anytime soon, especially since we’re in the minds of a pandemic. So, how is it that so many social media users suddenly own designer handbags?

Knockoff handbags were once considered a huge fashion faux pas, but now they’re being shown all over TikTok and users are being praised for owning these reasonably priced bags. Many people are using DHgate, a Chinese e-commerce marketplace site that is pretty much like a foreign version of Amazon. Among their many products, they make designer dupes of handbags including Chanel, Gucci, Saint Laurent, and Louis Vuitton. And DHgate isn’t the only place users are buying designer dupes, they’re also turning to Amazon and AliExpress.

These fake designer bags are all about embracing an illusion of expensive taste—some of the orders even have fake luxury receipts and authenticity cards, so they can claim their bags are real.

We do have to mention that copying a designer or artist’s work is disrespectful and while buying these bags isn’t illegal, in the U.S. selling them is. So think twice before embracing this trend.
