There’s been talks of a Friends reunion for years and last year, it was finally announced that we were going to get what we’ve been waiting for. In February 2020, the Friends cast made the announcement with a cast photo on Instagram writing “It’s happening…” in the caption. Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer will be returning to the screen together for the first time since the show ended in 2004. So what will the special be like and when will it air? Here’s what we know so far.

When Will it Debut?

The reunion special was supposed to launch on HBO Max in May 2020, but the pandemic slowed it down because the cast couldn’t film together. But on April 11, the Friends Instagram account announced that the special finished filming. No premiere date has been announced yet.

How Can You Watch It?

To watch the special you’ll need to have an HBO Max subscription. For now, you can catch up on all 10 seasons of the show, which are available on the platform.

What Will It Be Like?

The details have been kept under wraps, but it won’t be a revival episode. The reunion will be unscripted and the cast won’t be reprising their roles. Instead, it will feature a talk-show-style conversation looking back on memories from the show and filming. During an interview on The Graham Norton Show Schwimmer said “there is one section I don’t want to give away where we all read something.”

The special was shot over three days and will include set pieces and props from the show as well as behind-the-scenes footage. Before the pandemic caused a change in plans for filing, the idea was for the cast and creators to reunite on the show’s original soundstage in front of a live studio audience, mirroring the way the show was filmed. But due to COVID, those plans may have changed.
