Google is bringing Nano Banana 2 to Google Earth on the web, giving the mapping tool a new way to generate AI images from the places people are already exploring. The update is rolling out now for all web users, and it builds on the image-generation improvements recently added to Google Gemini.
With the new capability, users can take Google Earth’s aerial, satellite, and 3D views and ask the AI to reimagine them in different ways. That could mean picturing a site as it may have looked in the past, or turning it into a futuristic version of itself. Google says the feature can also be used for more practical ideas, such as creating infographics about landmarks or visualizing possible home projects like a dream lakeside house or a planned extension.
The company has also suggested using the tool to imagine how a place might look in 100 years, or to reconstruct historical scenes such as Pompeii in 78 AD. Google says the model draws on real-world information and images from the web, along with the material it learned during training, and it can trace existing ruins in cases like Pompeii. Even so, the usual AI limitations still apply, so the results may not always be perfectly accurate or structurally realistic.
