Tepache is a fermented drink that’s very good for you, which is why it’s rapidly becoming popular. Sounds familiar? Yes, it’s kind of similar to kombucha, but still not the same thing. If you love kombucha, chances are this is going to be your next favorite.

Traditional Mexican drink tepache tastes sweet and tart. It’s made from pineapple, usually from scraps that are left after you peel and cut the fruit. It can also be made from apples, pears, oranges, or corn. If you’re curious to try it, check your local supermarkets, grocery stores, and restaurants.

Tepache can have different nutritional values depending on the ingredients that go into it. There’s still not much scientific research about its nutrition and health benefits, but it’s known that it contains probiotics. Probiotics form during the fermentation process and tepache contains several types of them.

The drink also contains vitamins from the fruit used to make it. Pineapple, for example, has plenty of vitamin C, calcium, potassium, etc. Probiotic-rich foods and drinks like tepache promote a healthy gut and can help with digestion. You can drink tepache before a workout as it will provide your body with some extra energy.
