People Magazine have named Idris Elba the sexiest man alive.
The British actor is 46 years old and has starred in several hit shows including The Wire and Luther. He joins previous winners such as Dwayne Johnson and David Beckham, becoming the 33rd man to be honored by People with the title.
Elba reacted modestly (ish) to the news, telling People: “I was like, ‘Come on, no way. Really?’ Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today’. But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise – an ego boost for sure.”
Although most fans strongly agree with People’s choice, Elba says that he didn’t always possess the looks he does now. He insists he went through an awkward phase in school.
“I was very tall and skinny,” says the 6’3″ star. “And my name was Idrissa Akuna Elba, okay? I got picked on a little bit. But as soon as I could grow a mustache, I was the coolest kid on the block. Grew a mustache, had some muscles, bonkers.”
