2023 has been a year for huge, viral beauty trends, from Hailey Bieber’s “strawberry girl” summer to the ongoing influence of the Wednesday show across catwalks. As we enter the festive season, makeup artists and TikTokers alike are putting a new spin on the gothic looks inspired by Wednesday, in a new style termed by many as “gothic glam”. Combining dark, sultry, gothic-inspired beauty with a little glitz and glam, this look is a bit more fun and accessible than full-on Wednesday Addams. Check out these three tips on how to achieve the look this season.

Black and Gold

A simple way to achieve the goth glam look is to combine typical goth tones, such as black, red, dark purple, and green, with festive pops of sparkle. Try outlining your eye in thick black liner, before toning it down with some softening gold or silver. The combination works surprisingly well and doesn’t look too over the top if you’d prefer to keep your makeup subtle.

Subtle Lips

Perhaps contrary to expectations, to get the goth glam look right it can help to keep the lips subtle and fairly neutral. Whilst a red lip is a typical glam, and gothic looks often include dark-toned lipsticks, opting for a paler shade helps bring the look together and avoids you looking too overdone.

Natural Skin

Often, high glam looks involve intensely matte skin, whilst gothic beauty often involves pale or translucent powder. To modernize this style, opt for a natural, dewy complexion. This way, you’re not leaning too far into either trend, and you’re also keeping things fresh and letting your stunning metallic-toned eye makeup do all the talking.
