Is the Horror Show “Lovecraft Country” HBO’s Next “Game of Thrones“?

Ever since Game of Thrones wrapped up last year, HBO fans have been on the lookout for the next epic show that will replace it. Now that the network’s highly-anticipated horror series Lovecraft Country is here, we can finally know if it will possibly follow the footsteps of HBO’s biggest smash hit?

Lovecraft Country takes place in the city that supposedly served as a location for many fictional tales of the famous horror writer H. P. Lovecraft. It follows a young black man traveling across the segregated United States back in the 1950s in search of his missing father.

Lovecraft Country created a lot of buzz since its premiere on August 16th, and it has the potential to become HBO’s next big hit. Just like Game of Thrones, it’s based on a popular fantasy novel, and HBO set aside a huge budget to make it happen, but could it be just as successful?

J. J. Abrams and Jordan Peele are producing this show alongside showrunner Misha Green, so it’s pretty obvious that HBO has another hit at hand, but it’s its own thing. It’s primarily aimed at horror fans, so it’s highly unlikely it will become a global phenomenon like Game of Thrones, but that’s not stopping it from receiving praise and having impressive ratings, similar to Watchmen.
