Recording artists come with many creative ways to put their new songs on the map. Alternative music videos are a pretty common strategy these days, and here are three artists who recently topped the charts after embracing it.

Lil Nas X – Montero (Call Me By Your Name)

Lil Nas X did such a great job promoting “Montero” that he didn’t even need to release alternative music videos, but he still did it. The official video was followed by several silly renditions, including one inside the bathroom of hell, a fake official video that shows random clips of the singer and his friends, and a lo-fi version that you can study to.

Cardi B – Up

Like many fellow artists, Cardi B shared the audio and lyrics video of her latest chart-topping single “Up”, but she didn’t stop there. She also dropped a “mood board visualizer” featuring behind-the-scenes photos and footage about a month after the original video came out.

Justin Bieber – Peaches

Justin Bieber often uses this strategy to give his new singles a push, and he’s doing it again with his latest single “Peaches”. In addition to the official music video featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon, you can find several alternative videos for this track on his YouTube channel.
