It’s been so long since Lorde dropped her last album that people started making jokes and memes about it, but she’s finally ready for a comeback. Her third studio album Solar Power is hitting the shelves this week, and here’s what you should know before playing it on repeat.

Singles

Lorde gave us a taste of things to come with the lead single “Solar Power” and shared a track list with 12 songs and two bonus tracks. In the weeks leading up to the album’s release, she shared two more singles with the world–“Stoned at the Nail Salon” and “Mood Ring”.

Production Process

Lorde has been sporadically teasing the release of new music since Melodrama came out in 2017, and finally confirmed that she returned to the studio last year. Jack Antonoff produced Solar Power by her side, but she recently told The New York Times this isn’t “a Jack Antonoff record” but “a Lorde record”, and he’s simply the one who helped her make it.

Release Date

Solar Power was a long time coming, and it’s Lorde’s first album in four years. It will hit the shelves on August 20th, but she doesn’t intend to release it in CD format. The young singer made this decision for environmental reasons, and she’ll release an eco-friendly “music box” with handwritten notes, exclusive photographs, and a download card in its place.
