Matt Damon has offered a fresh update on the long-discussed return of Jason Bourne, saying he is in talks with filmmaker Edward Berger about bringing the character back. Berger, known for All Quiet on the Western Front and Conclave, is attached to the project, but Damon says the pair are still in the early stages of figuring out the story.
Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Damon said he would like the film to feel like the first three Bourne movies if it moves forward. He explained that the challenge is finding a way to satisfy longtime fans while still offering something new, especially since the series follows one continuous storyline rather than the self-contained format of James Bond films.
Damon first played the superspy in The Bourne Identity in 2002 and went on to lead The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum and Jason Bourne. He sat out The Bourne Legacy, which starred Jeremy Renner. If this new installment happens, it would become the sixth Bourne film with Damon in the role, following a franchise that has been without a proper new entry for 10 years.
The idea of a Bourne revival first surfaced in 2023, when Berger’s involvement was mentioned, and Universal later secured the rights in 2025. Damon said he believes there is now a path forward, but stressed that the story still needs to be “cracked” before anything can move ahead.
