Paul Thomas Anderson and Maya Rudolph have spent more than 20 years together, but their relationship has never followed the usual Hollywood playbook. According to the report, the Oscar-winning filmmaker first noticed Rudolph while she was working on Saturday Night Live, and the connection eventually grew into a long-running partnership that has stayed mostly out of the spotlight.
That privacy has remained a defining part of their life together, even as both have continued to work at a high level. Anderson recently won Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars for One Battle After Another, which also took Best Picture, while Rudolph has been busy with her Broadway debut in Oh, Mary! and has appeared in Anderson’s films Inherent Vice and Licorice Pizza. At home in Southern California’s San Fernando Valley, the focus is on family. She later said she had learned to ease some of the guilt around working by making sure her children were cared for and loved. The report also says the couple met at an SNL after-party in 2001, after Anderson had spent time behind the scenes at the show as a comedy fan.
