The hit mystery flick Knives Out started off as Rian Johnson’s whodunit passion project, but it’s now growing into a full-blown franchise. It’s recently been announced that Netflix bought the rights for the upcoming two sequels for $400 million and here’s what you can expect from them.

No Thrombey Family

The first Knives Out movie focused on trials and tribulations of the Thrombey family after the death of their wealthy patriarch, but don’t expect them to come back. Actress Jamie Lee Curtis confirmed they won’t return and jokingly wrote that “the therapist suggested they stay away from Benoit Blanc in the future.”

New Location

Long before Curtis’ statement, Rian Johnson himself said that the potential Knives Out sequels won’t be direct follow-ups and compared them to Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot novels. They will feature new locations and a new cast, and the next one will start filming in Greece in late June.

What About the Cast?

Benoit Blanc is the central character of Knives Out, so it’s safe to say that Daniel Craig will return for the sequel. Ana de Armas said she’d be happy to return, but it’s unclear if her character will fit into the plot. Recent Oscar nominee Lakeith Stanfield said he’s glad that the sequel is happening, but he doesn’t know if he’ll make a comeback as Detective Lieutenant Elliott.
