The Oscar race is heating up as the year’s most anticipated movies premiere at major film festivals. Some of them will be released by Netflix, and the streaming giant already shared trailers for some of its biggest Oscar contenders.

Don’t Look Up

One of Netflix’s most star-studded films in recent memory, Don’t Look Up stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence as two low-level astronomers trying to warn humanity of an approaching comet that could destroy planet Earth. Its A-list cast also includes Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, and Meryl Streep.

The Power of the Dog

Jane Campion’s latest film premiered to rave reviews in Venice, and it sees Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, and Jesse Plemons deliver performances of a lifetime. It centers on a charismatic rancher, whose life turns upside down after his brother comes home with a new wife and her son.

The Hand of God

A strong contender for Italy’s best international feature Oscar, Paolo Sorrentino’s latest feature also premiered to rave reviews in Venice. It’s been described as “a tale of fate and family, sports and cinema, love and loss” set against the backdrop of Naples during the 80s.
