Ninja has expanded its crowded kitchen-appliance lineup with a new product that combines two functions in one machine. The company’s first microwave, called the Ninja Crispi Microwave, is designed to do more than simply reheat food: after using microwaves to warm a meal, it can switch into air fryer mode to help create a crispier finish.
According to the report, the appliance goes on sale today through SharkNinja’s online store for $449. It includes familiar microwave presets such as popcorn, defrost, frozen dinner, and a setting for softening butter. The 1,000-watt unit also uses a flatbed interior instead of a turntable, which Ninja says provides 40 percent more usable cooking space than a traditional microwave. The design is meant to fit more food at once, including four bowls or two bags of microwave popcorn, while also being easier to clean.
Once heating is done, the Crispi Microwave can move into air fryer mode with its own presets, including air bake, max crisp, and air broil. Ninja says the air fryer function heats air to as much as 450 degrees Fahrenheit and uses a 5.5-quart glass container with an insert that allows air to circulate beneath the food. The container is said to be large enough for an 8-pound chicken and comes with two lids: one for storage and another vented lid for steaming vegetables.
