Have you heard of opposite dressing? Even if the term is new to you, we’re sure you’ve already been incorporating this fashion rule into your looks. Opposite dressing is all about taking two pieces of clothing that seem like they wouldn’t go together, like a girly dress with dad sneakers, and pairing them together. By wearing total opposites, you’re balancing the pieces out in a way that’s eye-catching. There are tons of ways to start opposite dressing are we’re here to give you some inspiration. Check out some of our favorite looks.

Structured Shirt and Comfy Bottoms

Dress shirts and exercise shorts never seemed like a combination that would work together, but this laid-back look ends up being super preppy and fun.

A true depiction of how leaving for an all day thrift trip makes me feel😆 I started thrifting and making videos about it when I was 17, working at forever 21 and sick of the local Dayton mall being dry as hell when it came it scoring lewks. The Salvation Army by my mom’s house back in Ohio was a literal sanctuary, where I could go and just be myself, find new DIY projects (so I could recreate everything I saw in that months @teenvogue !!) and put together what felt to me…like magic.✨ However, ~somewhere along the way~ my eating disorder and lack of self love/self respect ripped that magic away. Always telling me that I was point blank…not good enough until I was a certain size, it took my love for creating away because I was so hyper focused on my body, what I ate and what I looked like. (btw f that you’re amazing just the way YOU ARE💘) Now, out the other end and finally able to re embrace my first love (sorry tyler) THRIFTING and putting together lewks for anyone to rock, I just FEEL MYSELF and I missed myself. Ahhh, shit always intending to make these captions shorter but a NEW VIDEO where we #thrift all damn day at some of my favorite spots in LA is up!! (Link in my bio) tag your friends that love thrifting because this is truly just the beginning!🥰🥰🥰✌🏽 . . . . . #vintagestyle #thriftstore #thriftshop #thriftstyle #thriftfind #preowned #lookoftheday #beyourtrueself #thriftstorelagos #thriftla #thriftwithme #summerthrifting #thriftedfashion #thriftedthis #thriftedthursday #slowstyle #therealreal

Dress and Casual Shoes

We always thought that we had to wear heels with dresses, but over the past few years, we’ve seen that a chunky sandal or sneaker can tone down fancy, girly dresses making them more wearable for every day.

Dress Over Pants

Dresses over pants are a fun way to experiment with layers and it’s an ode to the ’00. Pull your waist in with a statement belt and don’t be afraid to mix colors.

Blazer and Bike Shorts

Blazers instantly elevate any look, even if it’s loungewear. For a daytime look, throw on some sneakers and to make the outfit fancier for date night, put on some heels.

Sweats and Heels

Who knew that sweats looked so good with heels? You don’t have to be limited to sneakers or flip flops when wearing sweats, and heels will make your sweats more wearable for when you go out and about.
