Veteran NBA coach Doc Rivers did not have to wait long to find a new job after being fired by the Los Angeles Clippers several days ago.

According to anonymous sources close to the Philadelphia 76ers, Rivers will be signing a five-year contract to become the team’s new head coach. As soon as Rivers was dismissed by the Clippers, sources claimed that the two teams that showed immediate interest in hiring him were the 76ers and the New Orleans Pelicans.

Rivers was fired by the Clippers after the team blew a 3-1 series lead to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference semis. The team had high expectations this season and was expected to make it to the NBA Finals after bringing in two top-shelf NBA stars, former NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

The 76ers, led by stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, also had high expectations this year and were supposed to be the team to beat in the East. They ended up getting swept in the first round of the playoffs.

Rivers will be tasked with trying to build a championship team in Philadelphia, a team that has not won an NBA title since 1983.
