Most moviegoers are looking for a relaxing and offbeat experience this summer, and Hollywood’s leading studio decided to deliver. Quirky ensemble comedies will be everywhere this season, and here are three worth putting on your watch list.

Joy Ride

Led by Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Hsu, and Sabrina Wu, this road trip comedy is packed with talent. It centers on four Chinese-American friends, as they travel through China in search of one of their birth mothers, uncovering more about themselves and their friendship along the way.

Theater Camp

If you’re a former (or current!) theatre kid looking for a film that perfectly encapsulates your quirky world, Theater Camp will be your cup of tea. It follows the eccentric staff of a rundown theater camp in upstate New York, bending together with the founder’s crypto-bro son in an attempt to save it from financial ruin.

Bottoms

Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri have been making us laugh with their Comedy Central shorts, and their first big screen collaboration is finally here. Bottoms sees them play a duo of queer seniors coming up with an elaborate plan to finish high school on a high note, and it’s been compared to the likes of Superbad and Booksmart.
