Academy Award-winning Rami Malek has shared how his time playing Freddie Mercury helped him shape his character in the upcoming James Bond film.

Malek is set to play the Bond villain Safin in the upcoming Bond movie, No Time To Die. After his remarkable performance as Freddie Mercury in the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, Malek has been one of the most sought after stars in the industry.

Speaking with Empire, Malek was asked about the challenges he faced in his new role as the infamous Bond villain. Malek then explained how his experience in the role of Freddie Mercury helped him to tackle the role with originality.

“If I went in there and tried to make a carbon copy of someone, what joy or fun would that be for anybody? I guess that may be a lesson I learned from Mr. Mercury,” Malek explained.

“If it’s not original, then why bother? I’ve pocketed some things from some of my favourites. But I tried to every day imbue this character with something I thought made sense for the character, but might also at the same time be shocking and unnerving.”

No Time To Die will be released in movie theaters on April 3, 2020.
