Ladies and gentlemen, we are currently bearing witness to a brand new pop star—a new “main pop girl” if you will—who is almost surely on the path to becoming one of the biggest stars in the music industry. We’re talking about Olivia Rodrigo, the 18-year-old artist who also stars in Disney Channel’s “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.”
Rodrigo popped onto the music scene in early 2021 with her first single “Driver’s License,” which, despite being very specifically about the teenager’s experience, went absolutely viral, breaking the Spotify record for most one-day streams for a non-holiday song and spending eight weeks on top of the Billboard charts.
Now, after this stunning success, Rodrigo is about to release her debut album “Sour” on May 21st, and as you can imagine, people are stoked. So far two more singles have been released from the album in addition to “Driver’s License:” “Deja Vu” and “good 4 u.” All three songs are diverse enough that the musical style of the record is still to be determined, but one thing is for sure: it’s one to watch for.
