Sienna Spiro Brings ‘Great Expectation’ to ‘The Tonight Show’

Sienna Spiro made a late-night stop on The Tonight Show to perform “Great Expectation,” one of the standout tracks from her debut album, Visitor. The British singer took the stage with a full band and two backing vocalists, giving the song a smoky, emotionally charged performance that matched its dramatic tone.

The appearance followed the release of the album earlier this month. Spiro also issued a music video for “Great Expectation” on the day the song arrived, and the visual presentation carried over into the TV performance, including the red-and-white backdrop used in the clip. According to the report, the song has drawn attention for the intensity of her delivery and the way it channels anger, sadness, and cynicism into the performance.

In discussing the track, Spiro said it was inspired by a period when she was in New York and speaking with someone who repeatedly promised to visit. She described imagining what it would be like if that person actually showed up, only to realize they never did. Over time, she said, the song shifted from being about that individual to reflecting on expectation itself and the way anticipation can become a kind of shelter, even when disappointment feels inevitable.

This was not Spiro’s first time on the NBC stage. She previously appeared on The Tonight Show in January, when she performed “Die on This Hill.” At the time, Jimmy Fallon praised her on air, calling her “fantastic.”
