Sir Elton John has been awarded the highest acknowledgment in the New Year Honours List.

It’s been a busy year for the music legend. Earlier this year, the Elton John biopic Rocketman was released and John has been busy with interviews and selling millions of records. Over the last five decades, the “Rocketman” singer has sold more than 300 million records worldwide.

Now, John has received the highest acknowledgment in the New Year Honours List. The list rewards a lineup of well-known figures from the worlds of art and sport for their contribution to the community.

Elton John was awarded the prestigious “Companion of Honour” award. The honor is in recognition of his contribution to the community through his musical talent. It also recognizes his use of his fame to promote work with 23 charities, including his own Aids Foundation.

“I’m humbled and honoured to be among such highly esteemed company in receiving the Companion of Honour. 2019 has turned out to be a truly wonderful year for me and I feel extraordinarily blessed,” John tweeted.

Only 64 people, including the monarch, can hold the honor at one time. It truly is a remarkable achievement.
