If you haven’t seen Squid Game what are you waiting for? The South Korean thriller has become one of Netflix’s most popular shows around the world and people can’t stop talking about it. One of its breakout stars, HoYeon Jung, who went from one of South Korea’s top models to making her acting debut, is blowing up, and you’re going to want to keep an eye on her. She’s becoming a global superstar and here’s more about her.
Modeling
Prior to becoming a household name with the success of Squid Game, Jung appeared on Korea’s Next Top Model, placing second, and she landed placements in fashion magazines including Harper’s Bazaar Korea, Vogue Korea, W Korea, and Nylon Korea. She also walked in runway shows for Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Fendi, Prabal Gurung, Versace, and Jacquemus. Louis Vuitton just announced her as its new global ambassador.
Squid Game
Jung’s first acting role is in Squid Game as the mysterious pickpocketer Kang Sae-byeok. During an interview with W Korea, she said, “When my CEO told me I’d been cast, the first thing I said was, ‘Why?’ I was so happy when I heard … but it was like a greater fear had taken over me. ‘Thank you very much, but can I do this?’” We’d say she succeeded!
Not only has Jung’s modeling and acting career taken off, but she is also the most-followed Korean actor on the platform with over 18 million followers. That’s pretty amazing!
