Standing on the Corner Announce SOTC (“II”), a New Version of Their Recent Album

Standing on the Corner have revealed a new album titled SOTC (“II”), arriving September 11 through XL. The announcement comes only a few weeks after the Brooklyn collective quietly released a different project, Standing on the Corner: II, which is still available on YouTube after its surprise debut last month.

According to the report, the two records are related but not identical. Several of the collaborators from the earlier album are also attached to this version, though Big Shug is not listed in the press release. Solange is among the new names associated with SOTC (“II”), while Danny Brown also appears on the guest list. The label did not explain how the two releases differ, and the article notes that sample clearance issues may be part of the reason for the unusual rollout.

The album includes contributions from Gio Escobar and his collaborators, along with the Warlockettes, Ladybug Mecca, Bubba Dupree, and Claudette Ortiz. Standing on the Corner also shared the song “Mr. Postman, Wait!” as a preview. The tracklist spans 15 songs, with featured appearances from artists including Styles P, Sonia Sanchez, Bubba Dupree, Claudette Ortiz, Solange, and Danny Brown.

In the press release, the group included an “SOTC communiqué” that leans into their cryptic style, but the new album’s exact relationship to the earlier release remains unclear. For now, the main takeaway is that Standing on the Corner are following one surprise album with another version of it, this time with a September release date and a revised guest list.
