]]>Ariana Grande’s highly-anticipated album Eternal Sunshine finally hit the shelves this month, and it cemented her status as one of the biggest pop stars in the world. Billboard 200 and Hot 100 numbers for its first week are in, and Grande set several major chart milestones.
With 227,000 album-equivalent units earned during its debut week, Eternal Sunshine scored the largest week for an album in 2024, surpassing Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s Vultures 1.
Eternal Sunshine earned 33,000 album-equivalent units from vinyl sales alone after Grande decided to release six different vinyl editions, scoring the largest vinyl sales week of her career.
In addition to topping the Billboard 200 chart with Eternal Sunshine, Grande also hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart with her latest single “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)”. This marks the first time she simultaneously debuted at the top of both charts.
“We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” is Grande’s seventh single to debut atop the Hot 100 chart, helping her break Taylor Swift’s record for most No. 1 debuts among women.
Eternal Sunshine also continued Grande’s unprecedented top 10 streak on the Hot 100 chart. Its lead single “Yes, And?” debuted at No. 1, making Grande the only artist to debut the first single from each of her albums in the top 10.

]]>Blackpink and BTS helped put K-pop music on the map, but their absence didn’t stop this genre from conquering the world throughout 2023. Several K-pop albums soared to the top of the Billboard 200 this year, and here are five that prove that K-pop is definitely here to stay.
After making history as the first K-pop boy band to headline Lollapalooza, TXT scored their first No. 1 album in early 2023 and gave us another catchy single with “Sugar Rush Ride”.
In the absence of BTS, Stray Kids emerged as the most popular K-pop band on the Billboard 200 this year and scored not one, but two No. 1 albums! 5-Star hit No. 1 with the largest week for a non-English album on the Billboard 200 in 2023. They later returned to the top spot with its follow-up Rock-Star.
It’s only been a year since the girl group NewJeans was formed, and they’re already breaking new ground. Their second EP Get Up hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, in addition to selling over one million copies in South Korea.
Ateez cemented K-pop domination on the Billboard 200 by soaring to No. 1 this week, with their latest album The World EP.Fin: Will, which they promoted with the hit single “Crazy Form”.

]]>After a lot of anticipation, Drake’s latest studio album For All the Dogs finally hit the shelves this month, and it made quite a splash on the charts around the world. Drake topped both the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 charts in the US this week, and here are all the major milestones he reached along the way.
For All the Dogs debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart with 402,000 album-equivalent units earned, becoming Drake’s 13th No. 1 album to do so. This is quite an achievement since the Canadian rapper managed to break a tie with Taylor Swift to have the third-most No. 1s on the Billboard 200, behind The Beatles with 19 and Jay-Z with 14 No. 1 albums.
For All the Dogs made an even bigger impact on the Billboard Hot 100, with all of its 23 tracks debuting on the chart. By doing so, they brought Drake’s total to 320 entries, making him the first artist to ever chart over 300 songs on the Billboard Hot 100.
“First Person Shooter” ft. J. Cole debuted atop the chart, becoming Drake’s 13th Hot 100 leader. Drake tied Michael Jackson for most No. 1 hits among solo males, but he’s still behind Rihanna (14), Mariah Carey (19), and The Beatles (20).

]]>TikTok heavily influenced Billboard charts over the years, and the masterminds behind this popular music magazine decided to do something about it. Billboard just introduced a brand-new TikTok Billboard Top 50 Chart, which tracks the music from the popular social media platform.
This newly-introduced chart will monitor the popularity of music on TikTok, and it’s based on a combination of creations, video views, and user engagement by the TikTok community in the United States.
TikTok Billboard Top 50 Chart will be released weekly every Thursday, and the inaugural chart was topped by S—- Red’s viral hit “SkeeYee”. Doja Cat’s Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper “Paint the Town Red” hit No. 2 followed by Taylor Swift’ “August”, “Go!” by Greg Cipes, Scott Menville, Khary Payton, Tara Strong, Hynden Walch, and “I Remember Everything” by Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves.
Mike Van, the president of Billboard, said they’re thrilled to introduce this new chart because no song is truly No. 1 until it’s No. 1 on one of the Billboard charts.
“At Billboard, we are constantly evolving our charts to reflect how fans engage with music and connect them more deeply with the artists they love. We see a clear opportunity to recognize the way music discovery on TikTok is shaping popular culture,” said Van in a statement.

]]>BTS has such a passionate fan base that we can count on each new song they share with the world to shatter records and top the charts. That was centrally the case this year because the K-pop group gave us not one, not two, but three chart-topping singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
BTS kicked off their chart domination in May when they dropped their summer anthem “Butter”. It easily debuted at no. 1 and went on to spend 10 non-consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the longest-running no. 1 hit of 2021.
“Butter” wasn’t BTS’s only candidate for the song of the summer. In the middle of its chart domination, they dropped another catchy track—”Permission to Dance”. It also debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100, but only spent one week at no.1 before “Butter” continued its reign.
Summer may be behind us, but BTS’s chart domination is far from over. They returned to no. 1 with the Coldplay collaboration “My Universe”, set to be featured on the British band’s upcoming album Music of the Spheres. This became the first song by two co-billed lead groups to ever top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

]]>Summer usually gives us countless songs that make it atop the Billboard Hot 100. Our favorite artists surprised us with many catchy tracks this time around, but not many managed to reach no. 1. Only four songs topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart this summer, so what is the secret behind their success?
Summer kicked off with “Butter” at no. 1, and it’s not difficult to see why. BTS has the most passionate fan base on the pop scene, and their summer anthem is so catchy that you don’t have to be a K-pop fan to love it.
“Permission to Dance” spent only a week atop the Billboard Hot 100, as a result of fans’ streaming efforts. Following its no. 1 debut, BTS returned to no. 1 with “Butter”.
If we had to pick a defining summer hit of 2021, it would definitely be “Stay”. The collaboration between Justin Bieber and the rising star Kid Laroi spent five weeks on top and it’s highly likely it will stay there for a few more.
Drake created quite a commotion with his latest album Certified Lover Boy, and seeing it produce a no. 1 hit wasn’t a shocker. “Way 2 Sexy” stayed at the top spot for its debut week alone, before being replaced by “Stay”.

]]>Drake has a habit of setting new records every time he shares a new album with the world, and he did it once again with Certified Lover Boy. This album became a true viral sensation right after hitting the shelves on September 3rd, and here are several major records it broke since its release.
Even before it made it to the Billboard charts, Certified Lover Boy became a huge hit on streaming platforms. It set new Apple Music and Spotify records for the largest streaming debut within a single day, breaking the record previously held by Drake’s own album Scorpion.
Certified Lover Boy easily debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, becoming Drake’s tenth album to do so. This makes Drake only one of eight artists to top this chart ten or more times. Certified Lover Boy also had the biggest debut of 2021, and the biggest opening week since Taylor Swift’s Folklore in 2020.
Songs from Certified Lover Boy also made a huge splash on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Drake became the first and only artist since The Beatles to dominate the entire top five in a single week. He’s also the only person to claim as many as nine(!!) of the top ten positions on the Billboard Hot 100 in a single frame, leading the way with “Way 2 Sexy” featuring Future and Young Thug at no. 1.

]]>We’re only a few weeks into summer 2021, but one thing is pretty clear when it comes to the Billboard charts—hip-hop albums are ruling the world. The majority of the LPs topping the charts since the beginning of the summer belong to this genre, and these three are leading the way.
Tyler, the Creator didn’t spend a lot of time promoting his latest studio effort, but that didn’t stop it from soaring to no. 1. Call Me If You Get Lost gave us singles “Lumberjack” and “WusYaName” and easily climbed to the top spot on the Billboard 200, becoming the rapper’s second album to do so.
Polo G has been part of the hip-hop scene for quite some time, but 2021 has proven as his breakout year. Following the success of his chart-topping single “Rapstar”, Polo G gave us an entire LP of epic bangers titled Hall of Fame, which became his first no. 1 album in the US.
Collaborative albums have been a huge hit on the Billboard 200 chart recently, and The Voice of the Heroes is one of the best examples. It saw Lil Baby and Lil Durk joining forces for a series of epic hip-hop bops, and they really left the world in awe with their partnership.

]]>Several music industry veterans topped the Billboard Hot 100 this year, but it would be wrong to say they’re the ones ruling it. The domination of the breakout artists is the biggest chart trend of 2021, and these three are currently leading the way.
If you still haven’t heard of the rapper Polo G, it’s finally time to learn his name. His latest single “Rapstar” became his first no. 1 single in the U.S. after topping the Hot 100 this week. To make the whole thing even more impressive, he managed to reach the top after beating the likes of Lil Nas X, Justin Bieber, and Silk Sonic.
With eight consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart, “Drivers License” is currently the longest-running no. 1 smash hit of 2021. It cemented Olivia Rodrigo’s status as the biggest rising star of the year and created a lot of buzz for her upcoming debut album.
“Mood” was originally released in the summer of 2020, and became a viral hit thanks to TikTok. It spent several weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 last year and returned to the no. 1 spot shortly after the holidays. It was later featured on 24kGoldn’s debut album El Dorado, which included collaborations with several hip-hop superstars, including DaBaby and Future.

]]>It’s been less than two weeks since Lil Nas X dropped his latest single “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)”, and it’s the only song everyone’s been talking about since its release. This catchy tune easily debuted at the Billboard Hot 100, but how did it soar to the top so fast?
It’s highly unlikely that “Montero” would create so much buzz if it wasn’t for its viral music video. Filled with Biblical and mythological scenes, this symbolic visual was created with the goal to dismantle “the throne of judgment and punishment” that kept many LGBT+ people from embracing their true selves.
The music video for “Montero” was fully embraced by the queer community, but it was quite shocking for more conservative viewers. Like Cardi B’s “WAP”, this video received a lot of backlash on social media, but this actually helped it reach no. 1. Lil Nas X didn’t take criticism laying down and created even more buzz with his sharp retorts to some of his biggest critics.
“Montero” and the reactions that surrounded its release sparked many viral memes—some created by Lil Nas X himself! He also asked his fans to share pole dancing videos to the beat of his latest no. 1 hit, followed by a hashtag #PoleDanceToHell.
