Cottage cheese was going strong on TikTok this year, and we’ve been introduced to many delicious new ways to eat it, but none of them created as much buzz as cottage cheese flatbread.
“Tradwife” content was having a moment on social media this year, and Nara Smith helped put it on the map with her viral videos that saw her making elaborate meals from scratch while wearing designer clothes.

Kroger predicts that more shoppers will regularly choose store brand alternatives instead of national brands in 2025, in an attempt to save some money while still enjoying the high quality that private labels provide.
Acidic, briny, and fermented flavors will finally get their five minutes in the spotlight next year, with olives, pickles, sauerkraut, and kimchi experiencing a rise in popularity among Kroger’s customers.
Protein-rich foods such as chicken and yogurt are never going out of style, but Kroger’s data predicts the rise of plant-based proteins such as beans, lentils, and hemp seeds.
If you’re a huge fan of all things spicy, you’ll be happy to hear that spices and peppers from international cuisines will be everywhere in 2025, including our wings, pizza, and pasta.
Caesar salad has been going stronger than ever in 2024, and its domination will continue next year, along with other unexpected flavor combos involving Caesar dressing.

]]>If you keep up with food trends then you’ll no doubt have seen the rise in rejection of “ultra-processed” foods. This term refers to food products that have been produced in a certain way or had certain ingredients added to them which makes them very processed and bear little resemblance to any natural food item. Here’s why opting for non-processed, real food is becoming more popular.
As people become more aware of the health implications of ultra-processed foods, there’s an increasing desire for clarity and honesty when it comes to food production. This means people want food that has simple ingredients. A classic test of this concept is to check a food product ingredients list and see how many items in the list are complete jargon to you. People want “real” food so that they can understand how it’s been made.
Gut-healthy foods have been thrown into the spotlight in recent years. With so many people having digestion issues it’s no wonder we are all looking to our diets to see what might be the cause. Having food that’s crammed with preservatives and chemicals is causing serious damage to the gut microbiome, so natural, real food is much preferred.

]]>One of the biggest food trends over the past year has been fermented food. This kind of food has been popular for a long time, but the recent obsession with “gut-healthy foods” has seen it thrown into the spotlight even more. Foods that have been fermented are often sour and tangy, which a lot of people love as a flavor, and their benefits on the gut microbiome are even better. Here are three to try if you’re new to this trend.
This food is made using kefir grains and milk. The grains help the milk to ferment without going bad and can produce either a milk-like drink or yogurt. Either way, you’ll have a very sour and tangy dairy product that has amazing effects on your gut health.
This dish is made using vegetables and uses a process that allows them to ferment just using water and various flavorings. The classic version uses cabbage and carrot but can be done with other kinds of veg too. The result is a spicy and tangy flavor that pairs well with so many other dishes.
Think of this as a more interesting version of tofu. Made using fermented soya beans, this vegan food is dense and high in protein. You can use it to make sandwiches or stir fry.

]]>Food trends are constantly changing and evolving. With so many people sharing ideas and tips on TikTok and other social media platforms, there are always new recipes and products to get excited over. At the start of each new year, food fanatics often try to predict what will be trending in the months to come. Soup has been a popular dish for a while, and many people expect this to increase over the next year. Here are a few reasons why.
Fusion cooking has been getting lots of attention over the last few years for understandable reasons. Taking the best flavors and ingredients from certain cuisines and combining them to create new dishes is fun, interesting, and exciting. Soup is ideal for this, as there’s so much room to play around with different ingredients, techniques, and presentation.
As we all become increasingly more aware of the worrying effects of climate change, sustainability has increased in popularity. So many of the trends seen in fashion, hair, and beauty are heavily influenced by a need to be sustainable and eco-friendly, and the exact same can be said for food. Soup is the perfect choice here, as it’s the best way to use up leftovers and old vegetables.

With so many of us conscious of our fat, salt, and sugar intake, treats are increasingly limited to special occasions. For many of us in 2024, that will mean returning to the flavors of our childhoods, as we seek out traditional sweets and candies. It can be great fun to indulge in these sweet treats in the company of friends, as memories can come flooding back. Seek out a local traditional sweet shop and stock up on all your old favorites.
As health and wellness will continue to be major trends in 2024, some of us will turn to healthy, plant-based options with a dessert twist. Think salted caramel-flavored nuts, chocolate-dipped berries, and rice cakes infused with gelato flavors. This trend is all about having your cake and eating it, completely guilt-free.
Why have one treat when you could have a combination of two? Following on from the success of the cronut (the croissant-donut), retailers and chefs will be coming up with exciting new mixes, like popcorn-filled donuts, or sweet-loaded fries.

The focus will remain on health and wellbeing, but with perhaps a little more balance and recognition of what real life is like. This may look like mixing a healthy smoothie with an indulgent pastry at breakfast or taking a more relaxed approach to exercise. Some food trends will be making a big splash throughout 2024, here are three of the hottest.
The penchant for chillis and all things spicy is going nowhere, in fact, next year will see a proliferation of extra hot sauces taking off in the market. Some people are consuming these for the apparent health benefits that spicy chillis can bring, others love the taste, and a few even seek the challenge of consuming ultra-hot sauce. If the seriously hot stuff isn’t for you, stick to a traditional jalepeno-based sauce to serve alongside vegetables, chips, and more.
Coming in hot on the heels of 2023’s girl dinners (which generally consist of small snack plates), grazing and charcuterie boards will be big news next year. These will be made modern through additions such as artisanal dried fruits, which pair beautifully with cheese and meats.
In line with the trend for drinking less alcohol (or none at all), there will be a big focus on naturally distilled alcohol-free drinks. Look out for sparkling citrus flavors, or more original twists such as grapefruit and passionfruit or strawberry and cream.

Although the overall trend for vegan food is quieting down, demand for excellent vegan chocolate is still on the up. Whether people are avoiding dairy for health or ethical reasons, 2024 will see the release of a number of ethical, plant-based chocolate bars. With ingredients ranging from coconut to cashews to almond butter, many of these bars will offer a nutrient boost from the wholesome, healthy ingredients.
Just as cereal bars have become fortified with essential nutrients and vitamins, more and more chocolate bars will be adapted to include those nutrients that many of us miss out on. Without affecting the taste, these added nutrients will up the health factor of the average bar of chocolate, giving us more reasons to indulge.
Following a general food trend that will set fruit front and center, many chocolate brands will be focusing on delicious fruit flavors. From mango and mint to banana and cream, fruit flavors can add depth and interest to chocolate and are sure to prove a big hit.

This started as a way to add more protein to meals which is something many people are interested in. and the results proved to be surprising, with the addition of this ingredient in recipes from cookie dough to scrambled eggs. The extra protein hit is a great side to this trend, but its popularity ensued due to the tasty variety of foods it inspired.
Another dessert trend with great results and little effort. The original trend involved mixing yogurt, peanut butter, protein powder, and chocolate and then freezing this on a stick. However multiple trends spiraled off of this with people trying their own flavor combos. Either way, it’s a tasty and easy dessert hack.
This trend became hugely popular due to its simplicity and deliciousness. It just requires freezing some watermelon and then blending it with lime juice to create a sorbet-like dessert with minimal effort.

If you want to get ahead of tastes in 2024, check out this list of some of the food items and habits that will be big news next year.
Since the pandemic, food trend experts have noted that more and more of us are opting to eat fast food, rather than go out to a cafe or restaurant. This reflects growing demand for ease and convenience, and this shows no signs of slowing down next year. Expect to see growing numbers of fast food establishments, as well as innovative and ingenious ways to get your food to you even quicker. Some chains will be trailing robot deliveries in city centers, while others are investing in top-notch packaging to ensure your order stays hot and fresh.
In line with an increasing awareness of the importance of gut health, probiotic foods (which contain plenty of healthy bacteria) will become even bigger news next year. Expect to see old favorites, such as yogurt, sourdough, and kimchi, as well as some newcomers—fermented fruits may take over from the classic sauerkraut.
Our fruit (and vegetable) bowls will look even more varied this time next year, as fruits that are relatively unknown now will become big news. Mangosteen, durian and dragon fruits from Asia will provide plenty of new takes on fruit salads, cocktails, and juices, and we can also expect to see more starfruit and sweetsop from places like the Caribbean.
