]]>The world stopped for over six hours—well the online world did. If you weren’t aware, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp all stopped working on Monday due to an outage. So what happened and are the platforms working normally now? Here’s what sent the world into a frenzy.
Starting around 11:35 a.m. ET, users weren’t able to post comments or refresh their feeds while Facebook and Instagram displayed error messages. On WhatsApp, users couldn’t send or recieve messages or phone calls. By 6 p.m. ET, some of the services became available again.
This was the longest downtime for Facebook since March 2019 when the service was down for around 24 hours across many platforms.
“To the huge community of people and businesses around the world who depend on us: we’re sorry,” Facebook tweeted. “We’ve been working hard to restore access to our apps and services and are happy to report they are coming back online now. Thank you for bearing with us.”
The blackout impacted Twitter, with users flocking to, which caused stress on the servers.“Sometimes more people than usual use Twitter. We prepare for these moments, but today things didn’t go exactly as planned. Some of you may have had an issue seeing replies and DMs as a result. This has been fixed. Sorry about that!”, the tweet read.

“Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger are coming back online now,” he wrote. “Sorry for the disruption today — I know how much you rely on our services to stay connected with the people you care about,” Mark Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook page.
We’re just glad all are back and running. Almost seven hours without social media was a real nightmare.

]]>Ariana Grande is the most-followed woman on Instagram with 240 million followers. The singer broke another record—becoming the celebrity with the most-liked photo. Grande posted the image last Wednesday and it has over 26 million likes. So what’s the photo that’s been getting all the buzz?
The photo is of her secret wedding to Dalton Gomez, which took place on May 15. She captioned the photo, “5.15.21 
” and it shows the two lovebirds celebrating their new marriage with a big juicy kiss! It’s pretty adorable. She waited until May 26 to release photos from her big day and in just one hour and 41 minutes, she reached 10 million likes on the post.
The photo gives a glimpse of what the “thank u, next” singer wore, which was a silky satin sweetheart strapless Vera Wang Haute gown with a plunging open back. The dress was accessorized with a shoulder-length hand-pleated bubble viewl with a satin bow on top.
That same day, she made two other posts from her wedding day, which have 18 million and 17 million likes. The photo of Grande is the second most-liked on Instagram, falling behind a photo of an egg that was posted in 2019 to beat the record-breaking image of the time which was of Kylie Jenner.

]]>Facebook and Instagram have been testing an option to hide like counts on posts for quite some time, and they finally made things official. These social media platforms are leaving it up to you to decide if you want to share your likes with the world, in an attempt to reduce the pressure on users.
In an official statement announcing this shift, Instagram’s representatives explained they tasted if hiding like counts to might depressurize people’s experience, and came to different results. “What we heard from people and experts was that not seeing like counts was beneficial for some, and annoying to others, particularly because people use like counts to get a sense for what’s trending or popular, so we’re giving you the choice.”
Each Instagram and Facebook user can now decide what works for them and choose if they want to see the number of likes on their own and other users’ posts. Instagram is hoping this innovation will put focus on the content, empower people, build self-awareness and shape a more positive experience.
If you want to hide your likes, simply head to Settings and look for the new Posts section. If you tick this option, it will apply to all the posts on your feed, but you can also opt for hiding likes on individual posts, by selecting the three dots in the upper right corner above a post and finding the option “hide like count”.

]]>There are some big changes going on on Instagram and if you don’t already have the new features in your app you’re about to get them soon. Not all users agree that these changes are in the right direction, but we’ll have to get used to them if we want to continue using the most popular social media platform. Here are three changes you can expect.
New Post Button
The “new post” button is no longer in the middle of the bottom row when you’re in the app. It was moved and replaced with TikTok clone Reels. It will lead you to a page where you can infinitely explore new content.
Notifications Tab
Right next to the “new post” button was the notifications tab, but it’s also not there anymore. The same button now leads to a“shopping” section of the app where you can see the best deals from accounts you like.
Messenger
Another big change is that you can no longer use Instagram’s DMs for messaging. Instead, the same button now features the Facebook Messenger logo and leads you to the Messenger app because Instagram’s chats are now integrated in it.

]]>You know how you often see perfect-looking photos on Instagram and wonder how was someone able to take such a masterpiece with just a phone? Turns out that people use all kinds of tricks to achieve the effect they want and we can now look behind the scenes of some of those photos.
As you will see below, many of the perfect photos don’t look nearly as glamorous in the making. Many of them include a photographer who got wet in the process or involve uncomfortable poses and lots of repetition, but these people are willing to do everything it takes to get the amazing result. We’re loving the trend where influencers are sharing “the setup and the shot” images side-by-side, which allows us to see that they rarely catch a perfect moment spontaneously.
Keep this in mind the next time you want to take a great Instagram photo, but it doesn’t turn out the way you imagined. You likely need to put a lot more work and effort into it, just like the people below did!

A traveler and creative from Sydney, Australia, Whiteman is dedicated to documenting her daily lifestyle. This mostly includes her latest travel adventures, showcased through food, places, and people. At only twenty-five years old, she recently completed her Honours degree in Design from The University of New South Wales, all while traveling and working full time on projects with clients, as well as managing her lifestyle blog and Instagram.
“I started focusing on creative projects while studying in university,” she recalled in an interview with Helen Chik. “In my first year of study (2013), I picked up an internship where they asked me to manage their social media and creative content, which was all very new to be honest! This really ignited my passion for creative projects and photography, and I guess it’s all been magic since then!”
Her images are usually portrayed through a kaleidoscope of color, as she seeks out the most beautiful and brightest places around the world. With a particular interest in travel, food, and lifestyle, her work has caught the attention of the biggest brands, with clients that include Canon and Tiffany & Co.
“I try really hard to ‘do it all’, and know that I definitely can’t, and that’s okay, but I only really figured that out the hard way,” she says. “I find one of the best ways to overcome stresses or creative blocks is to switch off. As much as I love the online world and my community, detoxing is one of the best ways to cleanse yourself—as cliché as that may sound!”
Her goal? To live life to the fullest, and create her own happiness. If only we could be so lucky…

]]>Dark mode has been one of the most requested Instagram features and, finally, it’s here. Instagram enabled the feature for both Android and iOS last week, and if you’re unsure how to get it for your phone, keep reading.
First of all, you should know that dark mode is not available for older OS versions, at least for now. You need to have a phone running on iOS 13 or Android 10 in order to enable it. These operating systems give you an option to turn on dark mode for the whole phone, and if you do that, it automatically applies to the Instagram app as well.
To enable dark mode on your iPhone, go to your Settings app, choose Display & Brightness, and tap the Dark button. To do it on an Android phone, go to Settings, tap Display, and enable the Dark theme button.
The dark mode is a useful feature that makes using any app easier on your eyes, especially when you’re using your phone in the dark. We must admit that it actually looks pretty elegant on Instagram!
