Even if the name Yebba doesn’t sound familiar to you now, that is bound to change very soon. The 26-year-old musician has emerged as one of the most sought-after performers in the music industry, collaborating with everyone from Ed Sheeran to Drake.

Born Abbey Smith, the singer first gained recognition in September 2016 when her performance of the song “My Mind” at a Sofar Sounds presentation went viral on YouTube. On September 10, Yebba released her debut album titled Dawn, after her late-night writing sessions in her bedroom.

The 12 track album features collaborations with the likes of A$AP Rocky, James Frances, and Questlove. She also worked closely with producer Mark Ronson, who shared a heartfelt post about his appreciation of her. “This is one of the most gorgeous, heartbreaking, perfect vocals I’ve ever recorded,” he wrote of the lead track, “October Sky.”

And he isn’t the only one moved by Dawn. The album has been praised by critics at the New York Times, the Rolling Stone and the list goes on. Her wide vocal range and storytelling abilities definitely make Dawn a special work of art. And we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this rising star.

The last week of August was an eventful one in the music world. On August 27th Halsey dropped their anticipated fourth album titled If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power. The latest record, which was produced by Nine Inch Nails, Trent Reznor, and Atticus Ross, centers on the extremities Halsey experienced in her personal life lately. More specifically, the concept of the album is “about the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth,” according to the singer.

For Halsey, this album is both a homage to 1990s rock roots and a sort of pivot away from what we’ve heard from them up to this point. It was also an interesting moment for Reznor and Ross, who don’t often endeavor to produce whole albums for other artists. For them, it was a chance to work with a new voice and a fresh perspective. The result of this combination is “noisy, desolate, sometimes assaultive tracks that still resolve into neat verses, choruses, and hooks,” according to the New York Times.

Overall, the album is a profound dive into Halsey’s introspection and newfound motherhood, and it’s clear that it was a deeply meaningful project for the singer. One listener who couldn’t contain her excitement about it was Taylor Swift, who tweeted “I’m blown away by @halsey’s artistry and commitment to taking risks.” We couldn’t agree more.

If you’re a fan of Kanye West, rap music, or music in general, you’ve probably been waiting around for a while wondering when West would release his new album “Donda.” Teased for five weeks now with four official public listening sessions and promised release date after promised release date, “Donda” changed dramatically over the course of its various listening events, such that nobody knew exactly what to expect from the album and much speculation and controversy was stirred.

Well, the album is finally out, having been released to streaming services on Sunday morning, along with a press release from West’s label, Def Jam. The album is nearly two hours long and includes 26 tracks with features from a menagerie of artists including The Weekend, Lil Baby, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Travis Scott, Lil Yachty, Jay Electronica, Playboi Carti, Baby Keem, Young Thug, Lil Durk, Pop Smoke, Jadakiss, and Jay-Z.

While it may have been preceded by what has been called by music fan /u/thenightmonster86 on Reddit “one of the most bizarre album rollouts I’ve ever witness[ed],” Donda is receiving a generally positive response from fans, with another fan, /u/seriouslyokay writing “quite a lot of tracks in this album are fantastic” and /u/burnthebankers writing “Ok, it is ****ing great. You may have noticed a new trend starting to be more prominent recently than it was before. We’re talking about men wearing nail polish. Lots of your favorite celebrities have been doing it, from Harry Styles to Bad Bunny to Brad Pitt to A$AP Rocky to Kid Cudi.

Unfortunately, despite it being a beautiful and creative way for people of all genders to express themselves, many people take issue with men who paint their nails, viewing it as something feminine. Well, Kid Cudi clapped back at the nail polish haters recently on Twitter, tearing down gender roles while standing up for his right to do whatever he wants with his body.

He wrote, “Turned my comments off on Instagram. Seems people really have a problem w me painting my nails. I got tired of blockin so many accounts. I really need u to understand, if u dont like me doin this or anything I do, please dont buy my albums, dont come to my shows. **** way off.”

This is similar to statements Kid Cudi has made before about his gender presentation, like when he wore a Kurt Cobain-inspired dress on Saturday Night Live and commented, “I want to be a disruptor… And it’s cool because I’m also giving confidence to the kids and telling them to be themselves and do what they want to do.”

Thanks for being such a good influence, Cudi.

You might associate him with a fairly outdated trend in music (autotune) and hit songs of days gone by like “Bartender,” “Buy U a Drank,” and “I’m Sprung,” but T-Pain is no less relevant now than he was in what was perhaps his peak in the mid-2000s. Here’s why.

He’s a Pioneer

The truth is that T-Pain’s use of autotune in his music when he first burst into the music industry was revolutionary. Using what was once a hush-hush tool for vocal improvement for style and auditory interest was a groundbreaking move, and T-Pain’s legacy can never be forgotten as a result.

He’s Talented

Unfortunately, T-Pain’s use of autotune has led many people to denounce his talents, but T-Pain is actually incredibly good at both songwriting and singing. You only need to see his Tiny Desk concert and the fact that he won season one of The Masked Singer to hear why.

He’s Still Here

Plus, T-Pain hasn’t gone anywhere. He’s still releasing music (he just released the music video for his latest single “I Like Dat” featuring Kehlani) and was even featured on Netflix’s new docuseries This is Pop, finally being rightfully recognized for his contributions to the music world.

If you’re a Lorde fan, you know why the entire internet felt like it collectively freaked out on June 10th. If you’re not, you might be a little confused about what the big deal is.

Well, Lorde, the 24-year-old New Zealand singer of “Royals” fame, is notorious for releasing music very infrequently. Four years passed between her first album Pure Heroine and her second, Melodrama. So when the four-year mark since Melodrama came around this year, Lorde fans started getting antsy. And Lorde seemed to be popping up more often than she had for years, doing interviews about her trip to Antarctica and sending fans emails on her notorious newsletter mailing list, creating buzz and rumors that maybe a comeback was imminent.

Then, in early June, the rumors started swirling faster than ever and information started leaking. And finally, on June 10th, Lorde sent out an email introducing her new album and single, both titled “Solar Power,” including a link to the song’s music video. It was the first music we’ve gotten from the critical darling in a full four-year high school cycle, and hungry fans ate it right up. In true Lorde fashion, critics also loved the song, which has quickly collected five-star reviews.

So join us as we eagerly await more from this elusive pop singer—and enjoy the “Solar Power” video below.

Billie Eilish is currently gearing up for the release of her sophomore album and has just released her newest single from the cycle, “Lost Cause.” Along with the single, Billie also dropped a new music video for the song, and fans are definitely having strong reactions to it.

The song sees Billie singing to a former lover that she was wrong about them when she thought they had their s**t together when really they’re just a lost cause with no job. However, the somber quality of the music and its message are contrasted with the high-energy music video in which Billie and a large group of friends hang out, sing, dance, and eat snacks, reminiscent of your classic high school sleepover.

Music fans with a keen eye didn’t take long to start comparing Billie’s new video to another one set inside a large mansion in which friends dance and twerk to a song. Any guesses? We’re talking about “7/11” from the platinum edition of Beyonce’s self-titled album that broke the internet in 2014.

So check out both of the videos … What do you say? Do you think that Billie was inspired by Beyonce when she created her new “Lost Cause” video?

It’s no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic changed the face of the music industry. As a result of social distancing, concerts were essentially non-existent for over a year. But now that vaccinations are here and the world is slowly starting to open up again, we’re starting to see large, public events making a comeback—concerts included.

What’s interesting is observing how event holders are addressing the issue of vaccination when it comes to concert attendance. While it’s too early to tell for sure, it does look like being vaccinated will make going to concerts much more affordable in the coming months.

For example, Chicago has launched a free summer concert series only for people who are vaccinated as a way to encourage people—especially younger ones—to get their vaccination. And if that’s not convincing enough, Miley Cyrus has announced that she’ll be doing the same in honor of Pride month in Nashville, Tennessee.

Meanwhile, in Florida, while you may not have access to concerts for free as a gift for being vaccinated, you will receive a pretty steep discount—we’re talking $18 concert tickets as opposed to $1,000 ones.

The message being sent here is clear. For music fans, getting vaccinated pays off.

Summer’s just around the corner and with the warmer weather comes cruising in our cars with our windows down while listening to our favorite music. And this summer, there are tons of new albums to look forward to that will be released so soon. Here are three much-awaited albums coming this summer and when you can expect them.

Lana Del Rey, Blue Banisters (July 4)

A bit over three months after the release of her last album, Chemtrails Over the Country Club, Lana Del Ray is releasing her eighth studio album, Blue Banisters in July. Last week, the singer released three tracks from the album, which seem to have a similar romantic, moody vibe to Chemtrails.

Billie Eilish, Happier Than Ever (July 30)

The two-year-straight Grammy Record of the Year winner debuted the lead single “Your Power” with a new platinum blonde hairdo to match. After the success of her debut When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? we can’t wait to see what this upcoming album has in store.

Bleachers, Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night (July 30)

Jack Antonoff is known for producing Taylor Swift, Lorde, St. Vincent, and Carly Rae Jepsen, but he’s also launched a solo project, Bleachers. The songs on the upcoming album Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night are a celebration of all things ’80s pop.
