Surprise: September 5
If you haven’t seen September 5, you’re not alone, and many have expected Blitz, Sing Sing, or The Piano Lesson to take its nomination for the best motion picture – drama.
Snub: Saoirse Ronan
Speaking of Blitz, it was quite a shocker to see Saoirse Ronan get no recognition for her performance in Steve McQueen’s historical war drama or the indie drama The Outrun.
Surprise: Sebastian Stan
Sebastian Stan received a lot of love at the Golden Globes this year, scoring two nominations for his work in The Apprentice and A Different Man.
Snub: Best Director
The race for the best director will be pretty tense, but it was still a shocker to see Denis Villeneuve (Dune: Part Two) and Jon M. Chu (Wicked) left out after giving us two of the biggest films of the year.
Surprise: Squid Game
The second season of Squid Game is yet to hit Netflix, but that didn’t stop it from scoring a nod for the best television series – drama at the Golden Globes.

Lady Gaga (House of Gucci) and Kristen Stewart (Spencer) were obvious front-runners for the best actress award at this year’s Golden Globes, so it was quite a shocker to see Nicole Kidman win instead.
Will Smith – King Richard
Will Smith’s win for his amazing portrayal in King Richard is fully deserved, but most people expected Benedict Cumberbatch to pick up the award for The Power of the Dog.
Mj Rodriguez – Pose
Mj Rodriguez was going against the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Elizabeth Moss in the category for the best actress in a drama series and managed to make history as the first trans actress to win a major acting category with Pose.
O Yeong-su – Squid Game
Squid Game made quite a splash and broke Netflix’s viewership record at the end of 2021, but no one really expected O Yeong-su to beat the likes of Billy Crudup and Kieran Culkin and win the award for the best supporting actor in a series.
“West Side Story” Stars
Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBose were both going against pretty tough competition in their respective acting categories, and it was pretty surprising to see them collect awards for their work in West Side Story.

The biggest surprise that HFPA had in store came at the very beginning of the nomination announcement when Snoop Dog stepped out to declare the contenders.
Snub: Selena Gomez
Steve Martin and Martin Short both received acting nods for Only Murders in the Building. Selena Gomez was left out, which is quite a shocker since HFPA has a habit of nominating big-name contenders.
Surprise: Licorice Pizza
Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest ode to San Fernando Valley fully deserves all the praise it’s getting, but it was pretty surprising to see newcomers Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman get their acting nods.
Snub: WandaVision
Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen received Golden Globe nods for their work on WandaVision, but that wasn’t the case with their co-star Kathryn Hahn—or the series itself.
Surprise: Foreign Shows
Netflix projects received 17 nods for Golden Globes this year, and its foreign series—including Lupin and Squid Game—had a surprisingly good showing.
Snub: Matthew Macfadyen
Succession topped the list of nominees in TV categories, but the absence of Matthew Macfadyen is pretty jarring because most fans of the show would agree he’s the MVP of the latest season.

]]>Everyone’s been talking about Squid Game and the South Korean drama blew up. Even though it was released about a month ago, it has become Netflix’s most-watched show. And not surprisingly, Saturday Night Live has done a parody of the show, and it happens to be to a country song. The sketch stars Rami Malek and Pete Davidson and it’s epic!
Davidson plays Gi-hun, whose financial issues led him to play the deadly game. He starts with his signature platinum blonde hair and then he dyes his hair red at the end of the song, just like the character does. Malek plays Sang-woo, his competition.
Nothing is left out in the song—there’s the impressive, colorful set and the iconic guard and player outfits. Even the games are played which include Red Light, Green Light, dalgona, and glass bridge. And of course, the creepy doll from Red Light, Green Light makes an appearance. The best part is the whole thing is done to a really catchy tune. Expect for “That’s what happens in the Squid Game” to be stuck in your head for a while.
Just beware—the sketch pretty much gives away the whole show, so don’t watch it unless you’ve finished it or don’t plan on watching it.

The most popular video centers around the red light, green light game where everyone runs towards someone who yells “green light”, but when they turn around and say “red light”, everyone freezes or they’re eliminated.
