The latest makeup challenge taking over TikTok, #2016vs2021, is all about makeup looks that were popular five years ago versus now. You won’t believe how much makeup trends have changed in just five years!
The challenge involves beauty creators dividing their faces and comparing 2016’s biggest trends next to 2021’s. Some of the trends that were super popular five years ago like baking, block brows, and bold lashes couldn’t be less fashionable now. In 2021, makeup looks are all about keeping things natural and minimal with skin tints that leave skin dewy instead of a full-coverage foundation, soap brows instead of thick brows, and lip glosses and stains over matte liquid lipsticks.
There’s no doubt that many of the makeup trends over the past year have been influenced by the pandemic with an emphasis on less is more. It’s truly crazy to see how different we look five years later with the side-by-side comparisons.
