After many long years of being a constant face in daytime television, thought to many to be a symbol of joy, equality, and kindness, rumors started flying in the past year or so of Ellen DeGeneres not being so great a person to work for after all. Accusations of the Ellen DeGeneres Show as a toxic workplace and DeGeneres herself being an unforgiving and even discriminatory boss were heard all over Hollywood and the world, drastically changing the public perception of DeGeneres.

And now we get the news that DeGeneres has decided that her talk show’s upcoming 19th season will be its last. Yet she did not acknowledge the accusations against her in this announcement, explaining her reasoning instead as the show no longer being challenging enough for her.

Whatever the truth may be of what has gone on and continues to go on behind the scenes of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, one thing is for sure: the daytime TV landscape will definitely look different without it, as it has been a mainstay since 2003, an impressive 18-year run. What will be next for the daytime television world and DeGeneres herself will only come to be seen in 2022 after the show comes to an end.
